Stories for Inclusion

Creating spaces where every child belongs
We believe every child, including those with disabilities, should have equal opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive—without experiencing low expectations or facing prejudice and exclusion.

The Stories for Inclusion project aims to raise awareness of diversity and promote inclusive behavior, grounded in international and national treaties and legislation. Using children’s books that feature children with disabilities, the project serves as a powerful tool to foster empathy, understanding, and inclusion from an early age.

Stories to Inclusion
“I didn’t know that people with disabilities have the same feelings as people without disabilities. I thought they were different from us, but they are like us and may be much stronger than us.”

About the training

The Stories for Inclusion training equips teachers – regular as well as special needs teachers-  librarians, and community volunteers with the knowledge and tools to use children’s storybooks as a powerful starting point for conversations about disability and inclusion—both in the classroom and in the wider community.

Participants receive:

A carefully selected set of children’s books about and featuring children with disabilities, including the story My Name is Runa, based on the real-life experiences of a young girl with cerebral palsy.
A practical Activity & Lesson Guide with age-appropriate, engaging activities to inspire meaningful discussions.
Interactive training sessions on inclusive education, understanding disability, and using storytelling to challenge stigma and foster empathy.

Together, these resources help create classrooms and communities where every child feels seen, valued, and included.
